Why is skin resurfacing so important?

Skin resurfacing – or exfoliating – is one of the most important processes for our skin to go through. Resurfacing the skin enables the removal of dry, dead, damaged skin cells which look dull and sallow and lets the new, healthy, glowing cells show on the surface. One natural skin cycle usually takes about four weeks, the time taken for new, healthy cells which are rich in nutrients from the blood to reach the surface of the skin.

One of the most common things we do is simply moisturise the skin thinking the dry, dead skin cells just need to be better nourished but, in fact, all we are doing is simply sticking these dead skin cells back down promoting even more of a sallow, dull complexion.  This will also make the skin look older and make-up will sit in fine lines and wrinkles more easily. However, moisturising is still an essential part of a beauty routine, to enable hydration, but must be done after resurfacing.

One of the best way to exfoliate or resurface the skin is to apply products containing glycolic and salicylic acid onto cleansed skin, such as the Jan Marini Bioglycolic Bioclear Cream or Lotion, which is part of the Jan Marini Skin care Management system.  This is a 5-step skin care programme which promotes rejuvenation, resurfacing, hydration and protection to your skin.  Bioglycolic Bioclear Cream or Lotion has dramatic resurfacing and texture restoring properties which benefits any skin type resulting in measurably smoother, clearer and younger looking skin. Oilier-skinned patients will love the immediate absorption and light silky texture of the serum- like lotion.

Melior Clinics also supply the Obagi Nu-Derm system which is a resurfacing system specifically designed for anti-ageing and hyperpigmentation skin.
