How botox can help with jaw reduction and face shaping

At Melior Clinics we know that you are most likely well aware that Botox treatment can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, but did you know that such treatments can be used to help in achieving a smaller face shape? We offer a range of treatments that can help in reducing the masculinity of a square jaw and many of our patients have seen results of a more rounded, feminine and delicate jaw-line. In this article we’ll explain a little about how Botox works, and how it can be used to reduce your jaw and shape your face.

What is Botox?

If you’re unaware of what Botox is, don’t worry, while the science and history is quite in depth, the uses and effects are quite straight forward. It’s a purified protein that is produced by Clostridium Botulinum Bacterium which, when injected into targeted areas, can reduce the size and strength of various muscles and can stop or reduce muscle and nerve contractions.

How Does It Work?

Botox can be an effective muscle relaxant which, when injected into an enlarged masseter jaw muscle, can produce desirable effects such as the weakening of the masseter muscle which can lead to it being reduced in size. This can allow for the re-shaping of a strong jaw-line or alternatively a wider, lower face with the aim of achieving softer, more rounded, oval proportions. By reshaping the face in such a way you should see results of a more feminine, graceful appearance, without having the worry of the associated risks and expense of surgery.

Are there any side effects?

Botox can be a fast and effective treatment and there’s generally no downtime and very few associated side effects. A small bruise or headache may appear after treatment, but most patients find the procedure is painless and can resume their daily activities immediately after treatment.

Will it hurt?

Botox needles are very small and are designed to only penetrate the surface of the skin. As such there is no need for a topical anaesthetic cream as the procedure generally doesn’t take long and the majority of patients find that there is minimal to no pain experienced during treatment.

How long does the treatment take and how many treatments do I need?

Each masseter jaw reduction or face thinning treatment usually only takes a few minutes, and we build in enough time to perform the treatment during your initial appointment if you decide to proceed following a free consultation, during which will discuss your patient history to ensure that the treatment is right for you. Generally we spread the treatment over two appointments which are approximately eight weeks apart, for which we only take one payment.

How long does it last?

While as with any treatment of this nature results will vary from person to person, generally the results of this treatment will last for approximately 4 to 5 months, after which time all of our patients are welcome to return to our clinic for another treatment.
