Mesotherapy to treat sun damage

We enjoyed a wonderfully sunny summer this year. Hopefully you’ve all heeded the advice in our ‘Sun Safe’ blog post – but if you have occasionally forgotten to apply the factor 30, then your skin might be feeling the negative effects of too much sunshine.

How sun damage occurs

The sun produces ultraviolet (UV) rays, which trigger the production of melanin in the skin (which is the body’s natural defence against UV radiation), causing us to tan. Sometimes the melanin production doesn’t occur evenly across the skin, resulting in patches of darker skin (pigmentation).

The UV light also has an ageing effect. It breaks down the collagen in our skin and damages the elastin fibres. The upshot of which is an increase in fine lines, wrinkles and rough, leathery skin.

How mesotherapy can help

Mesotherapy involves a series of small injections into your skin. These deliver a mix of natural remedies, including vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, anti-oxidants and amino acids, directly into your skin where they’re most needed.

The mesotherapy treatment strengthens your elastin fibres and stimulates collagen production, undoing the harmful effects of the sun. The mesotherapy ingredients nourish and hydrate your skin, giving it a much needed moisture boost after the drying effects of summer.

While the restorative effects of mesotherapy can help to reduce the appearance of skin pigmentation caused by sun damage, we recommend our laser rejuvenation treatment as a more permanent solution to dark patches of skin.

What the treatment is like

The mesotherapy treatment takes around one hour. It starts with an expert assessment of your skin to enable us to select the ingredients which will provide the best results for your complexion.

Before the treatment begins your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and sterilised. When we start to inject the mesotherapy blend you’ll feel a light pricking sensation which may sting a little. Once the injection stage is completed we’ll massage any remaining fluid into your skin. Finally we’ll apply a sunscreen to protect your skin after the treatment.

When you leave you’ll be able to go about your day as normal. You may feel a little tenderness in the treated area and we recommend that you do not apply any products for 12 hours after treatment.
