What are cheek fillers?

Cheek fillers are a type of dermal filler which are used to add volume to your cheeks.

We use Juvéderm Voluma for our cheek filler treatments. This contains cross-linked hyaluronic acid filler. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance which helps the skin to retain water and, therefore, volume. Being “cross-linked” means that the chains of hyaluronic acid molecules are linked together, making them more stable and therefore giving you longer-lasting results.

Unlike some other forms of hyaluronic acid (such as Profhilo), in volumising fillers it is gel-like in consistency. This means that it adds volume, as well as hydration, exactly where you need it.

How do cheek fillers rejuvenate your appearance?

When we’re young, our face is at its widest across our cheeks. But, as we age, our skin naturally loses elasticity as the collagen and elastin levels decrease. In addition, the fat pads in our upper and mid face gradually diminish (while the lower face fat pads become fuller). Eventually, this means that the widest part of the face becomes the jaw line.

The effect is that you can develop a drawn, sunken look. You look tired even on a good day!

Cheek fillers combat this ageing process by restoring lost volume to your cheeks.

The lifting effect this achieves means that lines and folds in your lower face are softened, as your skin is lifted back up into a more youthful position.

For this patient we used 2.5ml of Juvederm Voluma to restore her depleted cheek volume, re-plumping and giving her a less tired appearance.

What should you expect after cheek filler treatment?

You will notice the benefits of your cheek filler treatment immediately. Your cheeks will look fuller and higher. Your lower face will have been lifted, giving you a smoother, better defined jawline.

You may have a little redness or bruising after your treatment, but this will subside within a few days.

The benefits of cheek fillers usually last between 12 and 18 months.
