Exploring the pioneering treatments that address facial ageing.
Hollow temples? Regain youthful fullness
The temples are the areas either side of the face just above the corner of our eyes, in line with our ears and below where the forehead begins.
How do the temples influence our face shape?
This ‘temporal’ area of the face, as it is called, is naturally bony, sitting in between the cheekbones and the brow.
The natural plumpness of a youthful face means that fuller temples give an oval or heart-shape to our faces with a natural, gentle slope towards our cheeks.
Why do the temples change as we age?
As we age, changes in bone density and the fullness of the overlying tissue in this area mean that our faces change shape. Loss of collagen, which is a natural occurrence in ageing, also augments this change. The youthful heart-shape can evolve so that there is a more concave or slightly sunken appearance to the temples.
For some people this emphasizes the cheekbones and brow, giving a more aged or ‘skeletal’ look. This is usually a very gradual process, which may not be noticed until later in life. However it can affect some people earlier, especially if they are naturally slimmer or have experienced weight loss.
What are the treatment options for hollow temples?
Dermal fillers
Temple fillers are very effective for improving the appearance of hollow temples. Carefully targeted treatment plumps the skin in the temple area so that patients regain the youthful fullness here. This in turn smooths the contours from the temple down to the check, recreating the oval or heart-shape to the face.
Juvéderm Voluma is an injectable filler with a higher hyaluronic acid content than more traditional dermal fillers. Its purpose is to re-contour the areas of the face where there has been loss of fullness. Most patients see results soon after treatment, giving an even and natural look to the skin. The effects last up to 18 months.
Skin Boosters
Restylane Skin Boosters improve the skin’s overall quality by boosting hydration levels deep inside the skin and increasing its smoothness, elasticity and firmness.
Hyaluronic acid is one of the main components of the skin that helps give it a radiant look. As we age, the skin’s ability to produce hyaluronic acid decreases and can result in drier and thinner skin. Skin booster treatments are specially formulated to provide deep skin hydration and nourishment. They are are suitable for almost all skin types.
