We explain the differences between these rejuvenating treatments.
Gentle, effective Profhilo treatment for acne scarring
Acne is an extremely common skin condition that affects most people at some point in their lives, with varying degrees of severity. It is most common on the face, but can also be present on the shoulders, back and chest. In most cases, mild acne passes after the hormonal surge of our teenage years, but it can be more persistent or appear later in life.
For some people, the type of acne they have experienced, coupled with their skin type, causes scarring that can affect their confidence.
What is acne?
Acne occurs when hair follicles become blocked with oil and dead skin cells.
It causes different types of symptoms commonly known as pimples, whiteheads or blackheads, but it can also cause more severe reactions known as pustules, nodules and cysts. Acne is most common in teenagers, although it can affect people of all ages.
Certain triggers may cause acne or a flair up of the condition. Hormonal changes are a key trigger – this is why it is most common in our teenage years when sebaceous glands are active, but it can also affect women during the hormonal shift of midlife. Certain medications can also be a factor along with diet and stress.
What causes acne scarring?
Acne can sometimes cause scarring. Any type of acne can lead to scarring, but it is more prevalent when the most severe symptoms (nodules and cysts) burst and damage nearby skin. Scars can also occur if the skin has been squeezed or picked.
Acne scars are quite specific in appearance:
- Ice pick scars – small, deep holes in the surface of the skin
- Rolling scars – bands of scar tissue can form under the skin, giving the surface a rolling or uneven appearance
- Boxcar scars – round or oval hollows in the skin.
Profhilo treatment for acne scarring
Profhilo
Profhilo is a revolutionary moisturising treatment, which deeply hydrates and lifts the skin in targeted areas to reduce the appearance of mild acne scarring.
Profhilo is a unique, injectable hyaluronic acid gel. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring chemical, which the body uses to retain water in the skin and support its plumping collagen and elastin. It provides one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid available on the market.
Profhilo has a prolonged, stimulating effect on the skin cells. It is delivered into the skin via a series of small injections, and acts by stimulating the cell receptors to restore firmness and improve the surface of the skin.
Profhilo can be used on the face, shoulders, back or chest and can be very effective in reducing certain types of scarring caused by acne.
