Treatments for bags under the eyes / palpebral bags

Our eyes are not only the windows to the soul, they can also be the first thing to betray our age! Whether referred to as tear troughs, palpebral bags or simply eye bags, the skin underneath our eyes is susceptible to the signs of ageing.

The good news is that there are gentle alternatives to surgical treatment that can make huge improvements, instantly.

What are palpebral or eye bags?

The palpebral bag and tear trough form the area beneath the eye and above the upper cheek.

As we age, the skin here loses volume and can become thinner and more vulnerable to sagging. The tear trough can become deeper and darker, and eye bags can start to form. This can lead to an appearance of tiredness and make us look older.

Why do eye bags form?

Loss of collagen is a natural part of the ageing process and this is a key reason for the reduction in volume and fullness in our skin. This natural thinning can be particularly noticeable around our eyes.

What are the treatment options for eye bags?

There have been huge advances in non-surgical cosmetic treatments. This means that patients can achieve significant improvements to rejuvenate the eyes without having to take the more drastic step of surgery, and of course there is little to no recovery time required.

Fillers

An extremely effective treatment for palpebral bags is dermal fillers.

This is a very targeted treatment administered via a series of micro-injections along the tear trough, which is the area that can become thinner and appear hollow. The filler is then gently massaged in to ensure the gel is evenly distributed. By plumping out the tear trough, fullness is restored in this area, which immediately reduces the appearance of palpebral bags, giving a more youthful look.

Rachel explains how dermal fillers are used to plump and hydrate the tear trough.

The treated area may be slightly red and swollen for a few days, which can easily be disguised with makeup 24 hours after treatment has taken place.

Dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid gel. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring chemical, which the body uses to retain water in the skin and support its plumping collagen and elastin.

Ultimate Eyes

Our Ultimate Eyes treatment incorporates CACI, which is is a non-surgical facelift procedure, achieving a lifting effect by toning facial muscles and stimulating collagen regrowth.

The CACI system uses microcurrents to lift muscles, stimulate circulation and boost collagen and elastin levels. With focused treatment on deeper lines such as the tear trough, CACI is an effective way to smooth the skin.
