When botox was discovered it was found to have a relaxing effect on muscles. Initially it was used to treat patients with eye conditions such as crossed eyes and twitches – botox injections relaxed the muscles around the eyes and reduced their symptoms.
It was then found that the same relaxing effect could be used on facial muscles which cause wrinkles through repeated expressions – for example when you frown or smile. Reducing the activity of the muscles allows the skin to gradually smooth out.

Botox can only be used to treat wrinkles caused by muscles, so it’s primarily used for the forehead, crow’s feet and frown lines between the eyes (also known as “11s”).
It’s also used to relax the vertical muscles in the neck (the platysma bands) which can have an aging effect if they become too taut. Botox is occasionally used in other parts of the face.
Your practitioner will be able to advise whether botox will be effective on the wrinkles you wish to treat.
Botox is often used in conjunction with dermal fillers and other treatments to give an overall rejuvenating effect.
So, if we advise you that botox won’t achieve the results you desire, we’re confident we have a treatment that will.
Your botox treatment will generally take around 10 minutes but please allow 20 to 30 minutes for your full appointment. Most people experience little or no pain from the injections.
You may have a little redness at the site of the injection, but this should go away within a few days.
You’ll receive full aftercare instructions during your appointment and your practitioner will be happy to answer any questions you have.
The botox treatment will start working after three to five days and it can take up to two weeks for the skin to gradually smooth out and achieve the final results.
Once the botox has fully taken effect, we offer a free review and free top-ups to our patients. We want to ensure that everyone is completely happy with the results of our work.
Botox isn’t just about helping you look great, it can also deal with many significant medical issues.
