Juvéderm fillers explained

As a specialist skincare clinic, we are committed to helping our patients to look and feel how they want to. Whether they want to manage the effects of ageing, or to enhance their natural features, we can help them to realise their goals in a natural and subtle way.

Fillers are an effective treatment for many aesthetic requirements, and Juvéderm can be particularly effective for patients who want to refresh or define their appearance.

Our patients can be confident that our Save Face accredited practitioners will help them achieve the aesthetic outcome they are looking for.

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is an injectable hyaluronic acid-based volumiser that is primarily used to re-contour the mid sections of the face. It is used to add volume to enhance or define facial features.

Juvéderm fillers are formulated to integrate with facial tissue, which ensures natural-looking results.

There is a range of Juvéderm fillers and each is designed for a particular purpose, whether to treat fine or deep lines and folds, to restore volume for a lifting effect, or reshape and redefine areas such as the lips.

It may be that for an individual patient, we will recommend several fillers from the Juvéderm range in order to achieve the optimum results.

How does Juvéderm work?

The ageing process causes loss of facial volume. Gravity and the reduction in the skin’s natural elasticity and collagen contribute to skin ageing, and the gradual decrease in the fullness associated with youth.

The hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm binds to water in the skin, which helps to smooth lines and wrinkles and add fullness where required.

Juvéderm fillers have a unique, smooth consistency, which means that they flow easily into the skin. They have been specifically developed to achieve this smoothness and lead the market in hyaluronic acid volumisers in this regard, making them easier to inject during treatment. This smoothness is also reflected in the natural, even results.

Juvéderm fillers can be used to restore the face’s natural balance and heart-shaped proportions to create a fuller, softer, more youthful appearance.

Depending on the area of the face that has been focused on, immediately following treatment, the patient should notice softer, fuller cheeks and firmer cheekbones, smoother jowls and jawline, or a firmer chin.

With their lifting action, Juvéderm fillers can also be used to refresh a facelift that has become tired.

What can Juvéderm be used to treat?

Juvéderm fillers are used predominantly for the mid-face to region to enhance cheekbones, restore lost volume to lower cheeks and to contour the jaw and the chin.

They are effective in refreshing facial appearance in the following ways:

  • Adding volume to temples
  • Adding fullness to cheeks
  • Softening and smoothing lines and folds around the mouth
  • Adding volume and definition to lips
  • Contouring the chin and jawline.

Juvéderm fillers can be used to shape and enhance natural facial features in the following ways:

  • Contouring the forehead
  • Lifting and projecting cheeks for a more defined look
  • Plumping and improving lip shape.

How long does Juvéderm last?

Juvéderm fillers have a higher hyaluronic-acid content than more traditional dermal filers. Additionally, the natural molecules are bound, or ‘cross-linked’ to form a larger molecule, which makes the hyaluronic acid more difficult to break down.

These two factors ensure that Juvéderm fillers are long-lasting and treatment results can be expected to last for 12 to 18 months in most patients.

Can Juvéderm be used with other treatments?

Juvéderm is perfectly suitable to be administered alongside Botox and many other treatments. Just let us know when you book your appointment and we can advise you if there are any problems.
