Laser Pigmented Lesions & Age Spots Treatment

For the treatment of dark spots, age spots, liver spots and sun spots.

Laser treatment safely reduces the melanin (dark pigment) in the skin, so that pigmented lesions fade and slowly disappear.

Our Laser Pigmented Lesions & Age Spot removal Clinics:

Laser treatments can also address pigmentation issues across the hands, chest and décolletage rather than a single isolated area.

The laser targets only the pigmented area of the skin, which absorbs the light without damaging the surrounding skin, leaving you with a clear and even skin tone.

Our patients are thrilled with the results, enjoying even skin tone, greater confidence and freedom.

What is laser treatment for pigmented lesions and age spots like?

Close up of laser treatment for age spots and pigmented lesions

How does laser work?

The laser light heats up and breaks down the pigmented area or age spot. Once the pigmentation is broken down it is naturally removed by the body to leave an even and clear skin tone.

Only the pigmented areas of the skin are carefully targeted, so the surrounding skin is untouched.

Following your treatment

Once the pigmented areas have been treated, the lesion or age spot may darken and form a crusty layer before the skin naturally renews.

The pigmented area will gradually fade over several weeks. More than one treatment may be required to achieve your desired results.

The treated area may feel warm and sensitive, with slight redness, but this resolves quickly.

A high factor sunscreen will protect the skin following your treatment and help the pigmentation to fade. Your practitioner will give you full aftercare instructions.

FAQs

How does laser treatment for pigmented lesions and age spots work?

The energy from the laser light heats and breaks down the pigmented area, without damaging the surrounding skin.

The pigmentation is then naturally removed by the body leaving a clearer, even skin tone.

What is the science behind laser pigmented lesions and age spots treatment?

Pigmented lesions, including age spots, contain melanin, which is a pigment produced by specialised skins cells called melanocytes.

Laser treatment is designed to target melanin, causing it to break down into smaller particles that the body can naturally eliminate.

Further reading about laser pigmented lesions and age spots treatment:

How many age spots can be treated at one time?

We can treat several age spots during a single treatment. As age spots and pigmented lesions often form in clusters, many patients have more than one lesion treated during a single appointment.

Can laser treatment help with sun damage?

Yes our laser treatment is an effective way to deal with unwanted skin pigmentation caused by sun damage.

Does the laser treatment hurt?

A topical numbing cream will be applied to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.

Most patients experience only a tingling sensation.

What are the side-effects?

There will be some slight redness, heat and tenderness in the treated areas, which quickly resolves.

There is a small risk of hyperpigmentation and scarring, which is very rare.

Are the results permanent?

Age spots and pigmented lesions are unlikely to return in the same area, but others may develop with sun exposure without high factor sun protection.

How many treatments will I need?

One or two laser treatments are usually required to achieve your desired results. For deeper or darker pigmented lesions, further treatments may be recommended.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
