Acupuncture
We offer traditional acupuncture treatments from our acupuncture clinic in Huntingdon.
Acupuncture is a key component of traditional Chinese medicine that involves stimulating specific acupuncture points, known as meridians, to alleviate pain and correct imbalances in the body.
This gentle, safe, effective, and natural method of treating many conditions is widely used and accepted all over the world.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile and disposable needles into specific points on the body to help regulate the flow of ‘qi’ (pronounced ‘chee’).
Qi is thought to be central to the patient’s wellbeing, which can, for lifestyle or environmental reasons, become disturbed, depleted or blocked.
Acupuncture can help restore the body’s equilibrium and promote physical and emotional harmony.

Reviews for our Acupuncture treatment
What is acupuncture treatment like?

During your initial consultation, we will obtain a full picture of your health. This will involve some questions about your medical history, taking your pulse and looking at your tongue.
This will enable a full traditional diagnosis, along with a treatment plan for your specific symptoms, and the health and wellbeing issues you’d like to address.
During your treatment, specific acupuncture points will be identified according to your symptoms. Sealed, sterile, disposable needles are used, which are incredibly fine. These may be inserted and removed immediately, or retained in the acupuncture point for a few minutes, depending on your unique needs.
A temporary tingling sensation or a slight dull ache may be felt, this varies by individual. Most patients find acupuncture to be a relaxing experience.
Acupuncture – your questions answered
How many acupuncture treatments will I need?
This varies by patient and depends on the condition being treated.
Many people with acute conditions can experience a noticeable improvement almost immediately.
For patients with longer term or more complex needs, improvements evolve with a course of treatments over a longer period.
How often will I need acupuncture treatment?
Initial treatments are usually one week apart. As symptoms improve, the interval between treatments is longer.
Does acupuncture hurt?
The needles used are extremely fine and very different from needles used for injections.
The sensation of the inserted needle is often described as a tingling or dull ache. The needles are left in from a few seconds to up to 20 minutes, depending on the effect required.
Many patients find acupuncture treatment to be a relaxing experience.
Is acupuncture treatment safe?
Yes. The needles used are sterile, blister packed, single use and disposable. They are made of high quality stainless steel.
All members of the British Acupuncture Council are required to work within clear standards regarding hygiene and safety. These standards have been approved by the Department of Health and provide protection against the transmission of infectious diseases.
Are there any side effects?
Following treatment some patients may feel a little tired, whereas others feel more relaxed or have increased energy.
Should I tell my doctor I’m having acupuncture?
If you are actively receiving treatment from your doctor then it can be helpful to let them know about any planned acupuncture treatment.
You should also inform your acupuncture practitioner about any medication you are taking.
