Skin boosters

Skin boosters are an injectable treatment formulated to deeply hydrate the skin, improve texture and stimulate collagen and elastin production.

The main ingredient in skin boosters is hyaluronic acid. The body uses this naturally occurring substance to retain water in the skin and support its structure. Through their deeply hydrating action, skin boosters can treat and even prevent the skin’s ageing process to restore skin elasticity and plumpness.

We offer a range of skin boosters to improve the texture and vitality of your skin. Whatever your skin type and particular needs, our expert practitioners will recommend the right skin booster to achieve your desired results.

What is skin booster treatment like?

A woman receiving skin booster treatment

Before your treatment

We offer various skin boosters and your appointment will begin with a consultation with your practitioner to assess your skin and discuss which skin booster is best for your skin type and desired results.

Where appropriate, a topical numbing cream or local anaesthetic will be applied to ensure your comfort during the treatment.

During your treatment

Skin boosters are delivered by a series of small injections to deeply hydrate the skin and create a visibly restored and volumised effect.

Your treatment will usually take around 30 minutes, though it may be a little longer depending on the areas to be treated.

After your treatment

It’s common for small bumps to appear at the injection sites immediately after skin booster treatment, but these generally disappear within a few hours.

Occasionally patients have mild swelling or bruising, but this only lasts a few days.

Your practitioner will guide you through our aftercare recommendations following your skin booster treatment.

Skin boosters – your questions answered

What are skin boosters made of?

The key ingredient in skin boosters is hyaluronic acid. This naturally occurring chemical is used by the body to keep cells hydrated and well supported. Around 50% of the body’s hyaluronic acid is found in the skin.

What is the science behind skin boosters?

Skin boosters contain a blend of ingredients including hyaluronic and amino acids, which promote the skin’s natural regenerative processes.

The different skin booster formulations are highly effective at addressing the signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles and folds, and at reducing marks on the skin caused by sun damage or acne scarring. Their effect in the skin continues following treatment.

Further reading about skin boosters:

How do skin boosters work?

The ingredients in skin boosters encourage the production of collagen. This has a plumping and volumising effect, to reduce the signs of ageing, scarring and sun damage.

Because the ingredients in skin boosters act on the skin at a cellular level, they have a prolonged rejuvenating effect.

What parts of the body can be treated with skin boosters?

Skin boosters are a versatile treatment that can be used on the face, neck, décolletage, underarms, hands, inner thighs, abdomen and knees.

Skin booster treatment for the under eyes is particularly effective at reducing dark circles and palpebral bags.

How do skin boosters differ from fillers?

Although skin boosters contain hyaluronic acid, which is present in most dermal fillers, their action in the skin is different.

Skin boosters encourage a natural process of renewal within the skin through collagen production, rather than the physical plumping achieved by fillers.

What skin boosters do you offer?

Profhilo

Profhilo skin boosters are a very popular treatment for patients who want to reduce the effects of ageing and restore youthful radiance.

We may also recommend Profhilo as a preventative measure for skin ageing. This is achieved as Profhilo integrates with the skin to trigger the patient’s natural, anti-ageing processes.

Profhilo contains pure, high grade hyaluronic acid.

Sunekos

Sunekos skin boosters stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin in the skin. The result is deeply hydrated, plumped skin.

Sunekos uses a patented formula, which combines amino acids with hyaluronic acid.

The unique ingredients in Sunekos work together with the skin’s Extra Cellular Matrix to promote the production of collagen and elastin, which has a plumping and lifting effect.

Jalupro

Jalupro skin boosters have a unique ‘bio revitalising’ action. Jalupro may be recommended for patients who would like to address skin texture issues, such as acne scarring.

Jalupro stimulates the skin’s natural ability to regenerate, resulting in deeply hydrated, smoothed skin.

The combined ingredients of amino acids and hyaluronic acid in Jalupro stimulate the production of collagen. This promotes elasticity, firmness and tone, to reduce the signs of ageing, scarring and sun damage.

Nucleofill Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides are chains of molecules called nucleotides that form the structure of DNA.

Nucleofill polynucleotide skin boosters act on dermal cells to stimulate the production of collagen fibres and encourage cell renewal and repair.

Polynucleotides are highly effective for reducing acne scarring and repairing damaged tissue. Their deeply hydrating effect improves overall skin texture.

Restylane

The formulation of hyaluronic acid in Restylane Skinboosters refreshes the skin by hydrating it, restoring a smooth, soft texture.

Restylane Skinboosters boost the elasticity of the skin to provide a healthier, radiant appearance.

They are particularly effective at reducing the effects of sun damage and reducing smoker’s lines.

Which skin booster is right for me?

Your practitioner will recommend the most appropriate skin booster for you, depending on your skin type and the results you want to achieve.

How long will the treatment take?

Depending on the area that is being treated, each treatment usually takes around 15 minutes. Including your consultation, the full appointment will take around 30 minutes.

How many treatments are recommended?

Every patient is different, so what we recommend will depend on the results you’re looking for and your practitioner’s assessment of your skin.

Generally, patients initially require two or three treatments over a three to four week period.

How quickly will I see results?

You will start to see results of skin booster treatment approximately seven to ten days after the first session.

With Profhilo for example, patients may feel an immediate improvement thanks to the hydrating effect. However, it can take a few weeks before the full results of treatment are achieved, as Profhilo encourages the body to produce its own anti-ageing collagen and elastin.

How long do results last?

Depending on the patient and their skin type and condition, results can last for up to six months.

After treatment, how quickly can I return to daily activities?

Skin booster treatment requires no downtime, so patients can immediately continue as normal. Your practitioner will ensure you are aware of any aftercare requirements.

Do skin booster injections hurt?

There may be a slight stinging feeling at the injection point, but this only lasts a few seconds.

Your practitioner may use a local anaesthetic, applied topically or by injection, to reduce any discomfort.

What are the side effects of having skin boosters?

Normal side effects include small amounts of swelling, bruising, redness and soreness.

Most of these will subside after a couple of days and be gone within ten. If you are still experiencing problems after ten days you should contact your practitioner for advice.

Can I have skin boosters in combination with other treatments?

Yes, skin boosters are an ideal partner for other aesthetic treatments.

Skin boosters are often recommended to prepare the skin for certain treatments, such as peels and dermal fillers, because it can help to prolong their effects.

Skin boosters also work well in combination with botox. While botox reduces wrinkles caused by specific muscles, skin boosters give overall hydration and volume to complement the botox.

Your practitioner will recommend the best approach for your desired outcome.
