Introducing the Cosmelan depigmentation peel

Cosmelan is the leading depigmentation method to reduce and control dark spots and areas of pigmentation, in the both short and long term.

The Cosmelan method involves the highly effective combination of one in-clinic peel treatment, and a simple regime to follow at home.

We are thrilled to offer our patients this advanced depigmentation treatment at our London Harley Street and Sevenoaks clinics.

Find out more about the Cosmelan method

What causes hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is caused by increased production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour.

When too much melanin is produced in the melanocytes (the skin cells that produce melanin), dark spots or patches can occur, causing irregular skin colouration.

There are several factors that influence hyperpigmentation, including:

  • Genetic predisposition
  • Sun damage
  • Hormonal changes
  • Ageing
  • Inflammation

How does the Cosmelan method treat hyperpigmentation?

The Cosmelan peel works by regulating melanin production, to achieve a more even skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark spots and pigmentation.

Like a conventional peel, the Cosmelan method visibly removes and reduces hyperpigmentation, but most importantly, it also regulates and corrects the overproduction of melanin to prevent reappearance of darks spots and areas of pigmentation.

Who is the Cosmelan peel suitable for?

The Cosmelan method is suitable for a wide range of patients of different skin types and ages.

It is particularly effective for patients who are experiencing hyperpigmentation due to factors including hormonal, genetic, post-acne, and sun exposure.

Our expert practitioner, Dr Margarita Goncarova, will fully assess your skin and discuss your suitability for treatment, and your desired outcome, prior to treatment.

What does the treatment involve?

Skin preparation

Prior to application of the Cosmelan peel, there is a one month, at-home skincare protocol, which prepares your skin. The relevant products are supplied following your initial consultation.

In-clinic treatment

Once your skin is prepared, the Cosmelan peel mask is applied during a single session in our clinic. The mask is left on for a period of 8 hours to remove the problem areas of melanin deposits in the skin and encourage skin renewal.

At-home maintenance regime

Following your initial treatment,Dr Gongarova will guide you through a regime that you’ll follow at home for the following month (this regime can be extended for up to 11 months if needed, depending on your specific skin concerns). This involves applying Cosmelan creams and balms that we’ll provide for you. The regime will continue to reduce the pigmentation, and prevent its reappearance.

The Cosmelan peel benefits:

  • Targets all types of pigmentation
  • Significantly reduces dark spots and pigmentation
  • Offers permanent results
  • Only one in-clinic session needed
