How effective are tear trough eye treatments?

The tear trough area under the eyes – along the lower bone – can appear hollow and sunken resulting in tired looking eyes or producing dark circles, which can be particularly ageing.

People complain of dark circles under the eyes and quite often this is due to a dip/trough under the eye casting a shadow. Some dark circles are caused by hyperpigmentation, a different matter entirely, which can be helped with topical skincare products (book in for a skin consultation for more advice about this).

How tear trough fillers can help

Injectable hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can be used to correct a tear trough deformity. Hyaluronic acid is present in all living tissue and works by attracting water molecules to the surrounding collagen fibres resulting in plumper skin.

It is recommended you choose your treatment time with care since the area under the eye is more prone to swelling and bruising.

How long the benefits will last

Dermal fillers provide long lasting effects but are not permanent. Generally duration depends on the patient, age, the quantity of filler used and lifestyle. Typically results can last up to 12 months (or more) in comparison to other areas of the face treated with dermal fillers. Repeat treatments will be required.

It is important that your practitioner is well experienced and specifically trained for tear trough treatments and that your viability for successful results is assured prior to treatment.
